Most discovery produces quotes. This cut is the ritual that turns a week of conversations into a written decision, a rejected alternative, and a cost.

Field notes

01

Quotes are not evidence yet

A sentence from a user is a signal. It becomes evidence when it is attached to a job, a frequency, and a workaround they already pay for. We refuse to put a quote in the doc without those three.

02

Ask for the last time, not the feeling

'Would you use this?' is a feeling. 'Walk me through the last time this broke your Tuesday' is a scene. Models are especially bad at this — they average feelings. Your interview should not.

03

Stop when the decision is writable

More interviews after the decision can be written are delay dressed as rigor. Write it. If you cannot, you are missing a constraint, not a sample size.
